Joan Jett, de son vrai nom Joan Marie Larkin, née le 22 septembre 1958 à Wynnewood dans la banlieue de Philadelphie, est une chanteuse de rock américaine.

Elle est principalement connue pour sa reprise du titre I Love Rock 'n' Roll en 1982, mais aussi pour Crimson and Clover, I Hate Myself for Loving You, Do You Want to Touch Me ainsi que Bad Reputation.

Elle est mondialement célèbre elle appartient à la culture du rock’n’roll des années 80’ aux USA. Joan Jett et ses musiciens interprètent la chanson dans le style hard-rock:

1) Guitares rythmiques et guitare basse électriques, très amplifiées (technique de l’overdrive) donnent un caractère violent conforme à la révolte contre la société de consommation.

2) La voix de Joan se situe dans le médium grave, le cri « Wahow », se prête aussi à la contestation.

3) Le batteur fait entendre le rimshot sur les 2ème et 4ème temps faibles.

La culture rock est aussi exprimée par les vêtements de cuir noir.
